The trip started out with a 30 minute delay leaving Chicago but our pilot did his best race car driver impression and got us to Rome 20 minutes ahead of our scheduled landing. Long travel day -- Indy to Chicago by car then 9 hours flying followed by 40 minutes on the train to get to the hotel a few hours ahead of checking in. The good news is they held our bags so we could explore. Last check was almost 11,000 steps in just a few hours. My american feet are not used to this!

For anyone curious, O'Hare to Aeroporto di Roma Fiumicino is only 4,963 miles .

Walked to the colosseum today and the line was hours long to try to get inside so we opted for an outside view instead. Apparently the first Sunday of the month all of the cultural sites are free entry so the crowds were massive.

Stopped for lunch at a place recommended by a local that we chatted with briefly while he was walking his chihuahua.
