Day 2 - Rome / Food fun
Last post by dlritchie - Oct 06, 2025, 01:41 PM
Lunch today was at Sapori Di Roma.  I had the gnocchi cacio e pepe while Julie tried the prosciutto pizza.  I couldn't resist finishing off with a slice of tiramisu.

Day 2 - Rome / Breakfast
Last post by dlritchie - Oct 06, 2025, 03:30 AM
Stopped for a bite and a caffiene fix at a little spot called Al 28 Bistrot.  First time that communication was a challenge as the worker didn't speak much english and we don't speak much italian, but somehow we made it work.

I'm not usually a big cappuccino drinker, but this one was really good.

Took a morning walk over to Trevi Fountain.  They were busy sweeping up the coins, so noone was allowed down next to the fountain yet.

Day 1 - Rome / Dinner
Last post by dlritchie - Oct 05, 2025, 03:51 PM
For dinner we found Ristorante Turati.  When we were looking at the menu, i didnt realize i was given one with english and Julie was given one in all italian.  She had me so confused when she said she didn't know what was in something.  I couldn't figure out for a moment which word she struggled with - peppers, tomatoes, or chicken!  I guess it is easier to see it in a language you understand.

Walked to the colosseum today and the line was hours long to try to get inside so we opted for an outside view instead.

Day 1 - Rome / Arrival
Last post by dlritchie - Oct 05, 2025, 03:27 PM
The trip started out with a 30 minute delay leaving Chicago but our pilot did his best race car driver impression and got us to Rome 20 minutes ahead of our scheduled landing.  Long travel day -- Indy to Chicago by car then 9 hours flying followed by 40 minutes on the train to get to the hotel a few hours ahead of checking in.  The good news is they held our bags so we could explore.  Last check was almost 11,000 steps in just a few hours.  My american feet are not used to this!

For anyone curious, O'Hare to Aeroporto di Roma Fiumicino is only 4,963 miles
